Rochelle (Shelley) Rodrigo is an English Department faculty member and the faculty professional development coordinator for Mesa Community College in Arizona. She also has served as the college’s instructional technologist and is developing a writing certificate program. Shelley’s scholarly pursuits generally explore interactions between humanities and technology. She has been invited to speak about teaching and technology at both local and national venues. As well as co-authoring THE WADSWORTH GUIDE TO RESEARCH, Shelley was co-editor of RHETORICALLY RETHINKING USABILITY (Hampton Press, forthcoming). Her scholarly work has appeared in COMPUTERS AND COMPOSITION, TEACHING ENGLISH IN THE TWO-YEAR COLLEGE, JOURNAL OF ADVANCING TECHNOLOGY, and FLOW, as well as various edited collections. In 2004, she was awarded the American Association for Higher Education’s Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award. Shelley serves on the National Council of Teachers of English College Section Nominating Committee and is secretary for the Science Fiction Research Association.

I started teaching in 1990 right out of college. I taught 2 years at Deer Valley HS, 2 years at Westwood HS, and 4 years at Central Arizona College before coming to South. Before starting my teaching career, I studied communications at Phoenix College. I later changed my major and my location and earned a:
* B.A. in English Literature from California State University, Bakersfield in 1989,
* M.Ed. in English Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University in 1993.

In 2004-2005 I took a sabbatical from Maricopa to finish up my doctoral dissertation on the effects of hybrid courses on retention and student satisfaction, and I finished my:
* Ed.D in Instructional Technology & Distance Education at Nova Southeastern University in 2006.

I am a big advocate for the use of technology in the classroom, and I’ve been doing a lot of research on podcasting/vodcasting and many other Web 2.0 technologies that have popped up on the web in recent years. I share my experiences with these technologies on my various blogs:

A recovering .NET programmer turned tech evangelist who provides strategy for social media, brand development, and PR at Viewzi. Giovanni designed, developed and deployed online communities when MySpace was no one’s space, has used a Mac since before the “i” anything, and created vertical search engines when Larry and Sergey were still undergrads.

Biray is an international fitness and wellness speaker. She presents on current interactive technologies and their possible fitness applications. A freelance writer for various health & fitness magazines, she is amazed that she actually gets paid to author a column on all-things ‘tech and fitness’! She is also the health and fitness correspondent in SecondLife.

Biray serves as an adjunct faculty in the Exercise Science & Physical Education department of Mesa Community College in Arizona. She’s currently developing curriculum to make activity-based classes (like walking, jogging, cycling) completely web-based and for college-credit. She received her Master’s degree in Exercise & Wellness from ASU where she studied the benefits of exergaming on cardiovascular health. She’s obsessed with exergames, but in her spare time she dreams of having a PS3 so she can continue her love affair with Ratchet & Clank.

Israel “Izzy” Hyman wants to dispel the myth that video is difficult. The truth is that anybody can learn to shoot and edit video, and he aims to prove it.

Izzy has produced videos on a wide range of topics and currently is the Executive Producer of the online shows Rolling R’s (a series of video Spanish lessons), Paperclipping (scrapbooking video tutorials), and Izzy Video Tutorials (where he demonstrates how to shoot and edit better video). If he had a bumper sticker on his car (which he doesn’t), it would say “I’d rather be editing”. Also, he enjoys inserting unnecessary paranthetical statements (as if you hadn’t noticed).

Clintus is a video blogger and a dad. He’s been working with digital video for almost 10 years now and has worked in all forms of the medium. For the past two years Clintus has been addicted to social media and the people involved with it. He maintains a video blog at I Do It Digital where he shares thoughts & ideas, moments with his kids, and rants about things that bother him. If video isn’t your thing, you can always interact with him on just about any social network as he likes to “jump around”.

Nicole and Marc Spagnuolo together make up the team responsible for the creation and production of the video podcast “The Wood Whisperer“, a one-of-a-kind online woodworking show. Marc is also a contributing editor for FineWoodworking.com and Popular Woodworking Magazine, and co-hosts a radio-style audio show called Wood Talk Online. And since its creation in Nov 2006, Marc and Nicole have taken their fun project and over time and many lessons learned, turned it into a fun, profitable business with sponsors and advertisers.

Brian Shaler is a web developer and a marketer. It is a dangerous combination that can lead to fascinating results. Through many online experiments, Brian has gained a unique perspective on how large and small groups of people connect and interact on the Internet. Brian’s experience in the technology industry is diverse, ranging from hardware to software, from personal to corporate, and from sales to development. Recently, Brian spent a few years at an interactive advertising agency building web sites for several Fortune 500 companies. He currently works for BitGravity as a Senior Interface Developer.

Douglas E. Welch’s premier podcast, Career Opportunities, is nearing its 5th year of weekly production. He is a pioneer Podcaster and computer consultant. Douglas consults on a variety of technology subjects in the Los Angeles area, teaches Podcasting and New Media for Writers at UCLA Extension, and was on the staff of the 2006 Stephens College Summer Film Workshop in Columbia, Missouri, teaching new filmmakers how to promote and distribute their work using new media. Douglas is also the Founder of New Media Interchange.
